What Kind of Church is a Vineyard Church?

The Vineyard Church is Christ-following and Bible believing. There are about
650 Vineyard Churches in the US and about 600 outside the US. Our national
office is in Texas and you can visit www.vineyardusa.org for more
information.

What Do We Believe?

For a detailed belief statement see www.vineyardusa.org.

What can I expect on a Sunday morning?

A big red "ENTRANCE" sign will be at the door of the Habersham YMCA Youth
Center.  A greeter will give you a program letting you know everything that
is going on.

If you have Kids (6 weeks to 10 yrs old) someone will either point the way
to the Kids Area or take you there so you can check your children in.

We have coffee, tea and bread from the Fresh Market - free.

Our service starts on time (we try) and usually lasts about 1 hr and 10 min.

Communion (also called the Eucharist or the Lord's supper) is available to
any believer every Sunday.

Baptism

Why should one be baptized?

It is important to understand that baptism is NOT necessary for a heart change to follow Christ.  The Bible clearly teaches that the only thing needed for this is faith in Christ.  The man on the cross next to Christ was told by Christ himself that he would be forgiven (and he was not baptized, Luke 23).  It is important, however, to be baptized to be obedient to Christ.  Christ himself was baptized.  He commanded us to baptize others in his name (Matthew 28:18).  Baptism also gives people a public opportunity to express their faith.  Baptism is also very symbolic.  Jesus was killed and reaised again by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Paul tells us that baptism represents our own death and resurrection – dead to our old self and alive to live for Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 6).

How do we baptize in the Vineyard Church?

We baptize through immersion – completely going under the water.  The Greek word “baptizo” actually means “to immerse.”  Baptism by immersion gives the best picture of actually dying to our old self rising again to new life.

Who should be baptized?

All people who come to put their faith in Christ ought to be baptized.  Acts 2:41 says that those who believed were baptized.  Acts 8:12 tells of men and women who were baptized (not just kids).  We do not baptize infants or young children since there needs to be a faith commitment prior to baptism (and the understanding of what one is doing).  We do offer children dedications, though.

What if one was baptized at another church?

We do not feel you need to be baptized again to be in the Vineyard.
